before and after

okay so yeah i am at work and am not working but it is friday and i feel really caught up, no i mean really caught up. wishing it were another sunny day like yesterday and thinking this weekend's weather is surely going to be as they predict, all the way shoddy.
i miss blogging like crazy and can't believe i continue to find myself so far away from it all. not better off by any means nor less than i was before but stuck in the middle with lukewarm thoughts of every returing full time everyday. it's affording that i hate and also the book club conversation we had last month that conjured up sum sticky feelings about blogging. you know the book of laughter and forgetting by milan kundera? g. alexander made a very good point at book club that's got me kinda flustered. wondering, knowing really i'll never be a writer, never wanted to be a writer, just loved communicating with people far and wide. no real dreams or goals of becoming a world famous blogwriter. do you all happen to remember that corny little show called ghostwriter. it was for kids on like public television, always a mystery. man i loved that show even as a teenager. whatever happened to better television?
last weekend was all about clothesline, this weekend i will have the letters to artists out in the mail. i'm making a big bowl of fruit salad and a new piece of art. those two things are my only plans. it is rest and relaxation for this old girl.
so um the home above is well not mine and that's all i'll say about that. i mean it is one that collier construction is remodeling of course but there again, don't want to give away too much information plus if you want to see more go to here. i love working here, i mean it. finding life to be a little less stressful every new day. take care everyone.

what can be done

the next piece i've got on the coffee table slash studio easel isn't going as well. so i thought i'd show off my favorite part of my most recently finished piece. call it a bad habit. i am confused about how i want to "push the envelope" with the wood grain. it isn't like i've lost ideas, but can't see all of the options quite yet.

i'm watching the local news, thinking about a nap. watching the grey outside makes reading kundera's the book of laughter and forgetting a little more attractive. i've got until wednesday to finish up before next club meet. i really want to post my new paper quilts on etsy but have not got all the images i need, waiting waiting and then more rushing. i know the next piece after the one i'm working on now that i'm not real happy with, will be black and white. color is nice but i was thinking already about how to mix it up a little. i also have got to spend sometime writing a grant proposal. colder weather isn't all that bad, the rain keeps me from walking and from doing the necessary grocery shopping. it's silly but i end up purchasing all of my needs from cvs rx, so cheap after discounts and coupons.

i'm glad i stopped eating beef. and i'm thankful for my job(s). does anyone out there know alot about mac's garageband magical music making program? and well. that's about all. i can't wait until the weather gets a little bit warmer, i can ride my bike again and play tennis too. i'd really like to drink coffee outside in just a sweater. and yes, you're right i'm not articulating anything terribly important or specific, just felt the need to connect.

i wish

i feel rushed. just to say a little. there is no time whatsoever to post everything. i will quickly cut to the chase. i have been making art and haven't quite fallen off the face of the earth, not yet at least. in order of things, the weather today has been chilly and incredibly bright. so bright that squinting doesn't even seem to help. the days are growing longer, and there is a lunar eclipse tonight, anyone else heard? i should be taking a walk, i honestly have the urge to trek down main just to take photos of my neighborhood growing and changing.

i have been making art. i am still waiting on the book to be published in march. i will only have two pieces published, not exactly sure which ones yet. i am working on clothesline and have gotten most of the invites out to artists. i have managed to make two new pieces, completed. both taking on "contact". i really would like to step it up a bit, although i think the sticky wood grain paper is working. i love covering my canvas with tissue paper and then with my cut trees. the surface is smooth and the texture so thick feeling under my paintbrush, it's a rush. a silly rush, absolutely the most comforting thing in the world, other than tuna melts on flaxseed waffles. yum! i'm interested in what people will say about my new trees and pretty much know that i'm going to have to continue working hard, a challenge i am up to. i have a total of three pieces to finish by the first weekend in march and then i will be writing a proposal. for yes, a grant being offered up by createhere. i have an idea, a project idea that will include the forest of trees i have been "planting" or painting, depending on your opinion. nothing too political or environmental. a simple respect for shade, the love of wood and the living feeling that trees give.

by may i have got to magically produce between ten to twenty five pieces for clothesline. which is an absolute thrill. in addition to the art of making, i have been working on the art of relating, and last week really fell out of it. maybe it was the valentines day effort being made around the world that made me feel lessly. regardless i am back today, trying not to take a nap after work. walking again and lifting weights. one hundred and thirty five pounds sounds delightful. i happened to get to target to buy new knee socks and yes, a pair of leggings, aquateal. i tried them on last night and god almighty did i see well yes the nightmarish truth, just a goal i have or a dream of being a little taller. i'd also like to find some new canvas flat/skids with arches, flat feet. a wish. not much.

wip:sense of stability

my fridge feels sheepish, bemoaning it's job of storing my empty water bottles. they aren't going into the trash, until i find myself less to be under the influence of conspiracy. hoarding or collecting provides me with a sense of stability. from what i'm not so sure, except i'm concerned about being stuck without water. all of that is beside the point in a matter of the heart and mind i feel free enough to function outside of worry.
last night i picked up the gum thief, it's author douglas coupland, i take after neither his characters roger or bethany. i am not a middle aged divorced man nor a young goth girl, both staple employees. i'll miss the second book club gathering all on account of green drinks, but thought i'd read and gather my ideas regardless.

i have begun making new work, new art. back in the business of being joanie appleseed planting my seeds, growing my forest of trees. it has been difficult getting back into creating and will blame my walled abilities on the holidays.

i successfully cleaned my treehouse but have found that the art studio disappeared in the process. living and working in the same location has got to be an either or sort of thing, 595 sq. ft. is a little less space than what i'd like for the future of both my treehouse and my studio. nonetheless the work of art has got to be picked up again or else i'll lose it all together.

the contact tree is still a work in progress and favors in my minds eye the beehive tree i created a little over a year ago. the contact tree reminds me of recess and practice. the recess and practice of relating, in a context of contact and connecting with the act of creating art. and the act of socializing with fellow artists, writers, and the family, friends surrounding me. contact is a necessary part of living and without a tree's contact with the dirt, air, sun, and surrounding trees it would die. just as i might slowly die, alone.

***my childhood imagination has grown from being innocent and playful, to fear and paranoia. the fear takes advantage of me in the darkness, even as the break of daylight filters through early morning breezes. i have one fear that beckons often now. it is funny how human depravity is cyclical, never ending. as i have apparently gotten older and free, so have i gained more responsibility. i fear as i am asleep that the sheriff parked outside my home will find that i'm not a resident of georgia but, have tennessee car tags. i invision a redneck uniform pouncing on the opportunity to harass a girl with no direction but, to lie and pronounce that she's only housesitting. a dreadful equation of events proceed.

there are still others, blankets or drifts of fears that never come to fruition but, place themselves upon my ignorant fortress. over the last thanksgiving holiday i was walking up to the door of my home in the darkness of night. as i approach the doorknob to safety, the growling noise of an unknown animal approaches. i could have been torn to shreds by whatever it was but, i quickly slammed the door open and shut hard behind me. to follow me into my dreams as well. i awoke to the sounds of babies crying, shaking off sleep i investigated the sound closer and came to realize that i was listening to the cries of coyotes. to follow me as i am driving home on the one mile stretch of highway, approaching the speed of fifty, a animal looking more like a small deer flying through the field on my left comes darting out into the street. drawing closer in speed my headlights illuminate a coyote. i was driving quickly enough but, had slowed cautiously and still managed to catch the hind leg and tail of the coyote. amist the sound of my heart racing i decided then and there, though feeling quite vunerable, to carry a flashlight from my car to my doorstep. i envisioned the coyote healing and seeking its revenge. i'd like to be able to see in the dark, face my fear head on.

i have thought of myself at times to be intelligent. i take for granted that in the daylight i am able to see and administer a sense of judgement between reality and my own imagination. i will list yet, strike my fears for i am a fictional character that has no shame, no reputation to uphold.

the darkness is too great to be afraid of all of the time. my fear of darkness is subtle and does not take refuge in horror. for many people including myself, the fear of darkness implies a slight physcological upheavel, disorder and confusion. i have felt that the darkness bites at my heels or pinches my neck, an irritating self imposed nag.
***written over ten years ago...

today i am not alone, nor do my fears bite at me like they used to. i am now at a time in my life that any and all responsibility is great, and still provides a sense of freedom but, with little fear. what is great and wonderful and beautiful is more, inside my heart and mind.

down the days

talk about one dreary day. chattanooga is seeing it's share of the coldmuck these days. our schools close on account of wet roads, and children's imaginations drift and are deferred to the television on days like today. i would like my crossword puzzle book and an endless supply of the very best frothy coffee in the world. i would also like to do everything. for instance, be in two places at once, socializing and sleeping simultaneously. i'd like to learn to dance like the girls behind hiphops top word experts. i'd like to travel just a little, not so much. i'd at least like to have my own covered parking place. i'd like to try and paint everyday, just like my friend is trying to do.

i cannot wait until friday the twenty fifth.

and oh next wednesday too.

i'd like to have free CARTA internet everyday. i'd also like to beat my mac's chess game for once already
